B.Sc. (MLS)

Eligibility : All those candidates who have passed the 10+2 with Physics & Chemistry as compulsory subjects and either Mathematics or Biology from recognized Board / University / Council or 10+2 with vocational course in Medical Laboratory Science / Medical Laboratory Technology with atleast 50% marks (45% marks in case of candidate belonging to Reserved Category) in aggregate.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES (POs) : 

A medical laboratory scientist (MLS), also known as a medical technologist or clinical laboratory scientist, works to analyze a variety of biological specimens. They are responsible for performing scientific testing on samples and reporting results to physicians.

PO1-Undergo training in all fields of laboratory medicine (Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pathology and Blood bank departments respectively).

PO2-Collect and prepare the sample.

PO3-Handle fully automated analysers.

PO4-Understand and perform special stains and smears.

PO5-Understand and perform basic cytology and haematology procedures.

PO6-Perform grossing, cutting & staining procedures in histopathology.

PO7-Counsel and screen the Donars and prepare the blood components.

PO8-Perform Quality control procedures.

PO9-Effectively use of HIS/LIS.

PO10-Maintain log books and registers.

PO11Work efficiently in medical laboratories in India and abroad.

PO12Work under different specialities of Laboratory Medicine (Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pathology and Blood bank departments respectively).

PO13Work and contribute in NABL accreditation program

    BMLS102-18 General Microbiology CO1-This subject gives the general insight into history and basics of medical microbiology, imparts the knowledge about equipments used in Medical Microbiology and basic procedures done in medical microbiology laboratory i.e. microscopy, sterilization, disinfection, culture methods required to perform different microbiological tests in clinical microbiology lab and biomedical waste management.
    BMLS103-18 Basics of Biochemistry CO1-The main objective of the subject is to impart the knowledge of apparatus, units,  equipments, volumetric analysis in the laboratory of clinical Biochemistry.
    BMLS104-18 Essential Biology Practical CO1-To acquire adequate laboratory and field skills in order to carry out and evaluate experiments and projects in biology. To acquire necessary scientific skills, for example, observations, classification and interpretation of biology data.
    BMLS105-18 General Microbiology Practical CO1-Students are able to classify, identify, use of instruments, sterilization, cultural requirements and to perform different microbiological tests in clinical microbiology lab.
    BMLS106-18 Basics of Biochemistry – Practical CO1-The main objective of the subject is to impart the knowledge of apparatus, units, equipments, volumetric analysis in the laboratory of clinical biochemistry
    BTHU103-18 English CO1-The objective of this course is to introduce students to the theory, fundamentals and tools of communication.
    CO2-To help the students become the independent users of English language.
    CO3-To develop in them vital communication skills which are integral to their personal, social and professional interactions.
    CO4-The syllabus shall address the issues relating to the Language of communication.
    CO5-Students will become proficient in professional communication such as interviews, group discussions, office environments, important reading skills as well as writing skills such as report writing, note taking etc.
    BTHU104-18 English Practical/Laboratory CO1-The objective of this course is to introduce students to the theory, fundamentals and tools of communication.

    CO2-To facilitate the development of a Holistic perspective among students towards life, profession and happiness, based on a correct understanding of the Human reality and the rest of Existence. Such a holistic perspective forms the basis of Value based living in a natural way.

    BMLS202-18 Biochemical metabolism CO1-This subject shall give information about all the major metabolic pathways occurring in our body.

    BMLS203-18 Human Anatomy and Physiology-I CO1-Students will be able to learn the terminology of the subject and basic knowledge of cells, tissues, blood and to understand anatomy and physiology of human body.  
    CO2-This subject will develop an understanding of the structure and function of organs and organ systems in normal human body.  
    BMLS204-18 Systemic Bacteriology Practical CO1-The Laboratory of Bacteriology (LB) studies bacteria that cause important human infections, including intracellular and arthropod-borne bacterial pathogens.  
    BMLS205-18 Biochemical Metabolism Practical CO1-The unit of hospitals and other health institutions that serves in the processes of analyzing the diseases and general health status, performing biological analyzes in the detection-diagnosis-treatment processes and interpreting the tests performed for this purpose is called a biochemistry laboratory.  
    BMLS206-18 Human Anatomy and Physiology-I – Practical CO1-Students will be able to learn the terminology of the subject and basic knowledge of cells, tissues, blood and to understand anatomy and physiology of human body.

    BMLS304-18 Basic Hematology-& Hematological Techniques-I CO1-Students will be able to know the basic concepts of Haematology&outine clinical investigations of Haematology lab.
    BMLS305-18 Analytical Biochemistry -I CO1-Analytical Chemistry Allows Clinical Lab Scientists to Analyze Human Biological Specimens. Clinical chemistry is based on the biochemical analysis of human biological specimens or body fluids.
    BMLS306-18 Human Anatomy and Physiology-I I Practical CO1-Demonstrate understanding of chemical and biological principles and knowledge that serve as the foundation for understanding human anatomy and physiology.
    CO2-Understand and analyze cellular processes governing development, growth and normal function of the human body.
     
    CO3-Understand the processes involved with maintaining homeostasis and anticipate what may occur     when homeostatic balance mechanisms are lost.

    BMLS307-18 Applied Bacteriology CO1-The part will cover the strategy in the Laboratory diagnosis of various Infective syndromes i. e. choice of samples, collection and transportation and processing of samples for isolation of bacterial pathogen and then to put antibiotic susceptibility testing. This will also cover Bacteriological examination of water, milk, food and air and nosocomial infections.
    BMLS308-18 Applied Bacteriology Practical CO1-Focuses on the development of knowledge and skills required to practice medical microbiology.
    CO1-To addresses the transmission and control of pathogens, epidemiology, determination of the significance of isolates, and safety issues in the clinical microbiology laboratory.

    CO2-They will also learn the estimation of different parameters of coagulation studies.

    BMLS403-18 Clinical Biochemistry-I CO1-Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the molecular machinery of living cells;
    CO2-Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principles that govern the structures of macromolecules and their participation in molecular recognition;
    CO3-Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principles and basic mechanisms of metabolic control and molecular signling;

    BMLS404-18 Basic Cell Pathology – Practical CO1-The goal of cell pathology examination of tissue is to provide accurate, specific and sufficiently comprehensive diagnoses to enable the treating physician to develop an optimal plan of treatment. There are hundreds of varieties tumors, most with characteristic biology, that require accurate diagnosis by pathologists.
    BMLS405-18 Basic Hematology-II – Practical CO1-Haematological tests can help diagnose anemia, infection, hemophilia, blood-clotting disorders, and leukemia.
    BMLS406-18 Clinical Biochemistry-I – Practical CO1-Clinical Biochemistry, the study of biological phenomena at cellular and molecular level, is studied to gain knowledge about the principles that govern complex biological systems.
    BMLS407-18 Immunology and Mycology CO1-This section will cover the basic aspects of immunity, antigens, antibodies, various serological reactions, techniques and their utility in laboratory diagnosis of human diseases. It will also cover medically important fungi, infections caused by them and their laboratory diagnosis.
    BMLS408-18 Immunology and Mycology- Practical CO1-The Immunology and Mycology Laboratory is responsible for laboratory testing and clinical consultation in several broad areas including the evaluation of autoimmune disease, immunodeficiencies, non-proliferation disorders, and allergy, as well as having responsibility for some aspects of infectious disease serology.

    BMLS502-18 Applied Hematology-I – Practical CO1-Haematology is the specialty responsible for the diagnosis and management of a wide range of benign and malignant disorders of the red and white blood cells, platelets and the coagulation system in adults and children.
    BMLS503-18 Medical Lab Management CO1-The students will become aware of ethics in a clinical laboratory, Good laboratory practice and Quality Management in a clinical laboratory.
    BMLS504-18 Histotechnology-I CO1-In this section students will be made aware of terminology used in histotechnology, various instruments and their maintenance and also learn the processing of various samples for historiographical investigations.
    BMLS505-18 Clinical Biochemistry-II CO1-The students will learn about the various methods of patients’ sample analysis for biochemistry parameters. The students will learn how to analyze various clinical samples, for estimation of different components which are the cause of the disease or are the diagnostic/prognostic markers. This subject gives information about various clinically important enzymes & automation techniques.
    BMLS506-18 Histotechnology-I – Practical CO1-To operate, maintain, and troubleshoot standard histology instrumentation and to monitor for quality control.
    CO2-To understand and comply with laboratory safety procedures and regulations.
    CO3-To microscopically identify tissues and basic anatomical structures.
    BMLS507-18 Clinical Biochemistry-II – Practical CO1-Clinical biochemistry is the study of the chemistry of the human body and how it is affected by disease. It’s a fascinating subject which combines expert theoretical knowledge with practical skills to help with the diagnosis and treatment of everything from endocrine disorders to antenatal complications.
    BMLS508-18 Minor Project CO1-Candidate has to perform a project dealing with bioinformatics tools and their knowledge.

    BMLS603-18 Blood Banking CO1-This subject will make students learn about blood grouping & blood transfusion. The students will learn about the concept of blood grouping, compatibility testing in blood transfusion & screening of donated blood for various infectious diseases.
    BMLS604-18 Parasitology and virology CO1-The students will be taught about introduction, general characteristics, life cycle and laboratory diagnosis of various Medically important parasites.
    CO2-They also learn about diseases caused by medically important viruses, samples collection and laboratory diagnosis of some important viral infections.
    BMLS605-18 Histotechnology-II & Cytology CO1-The students will learn about various staining procedures for demonstration of different substances & various cytological investigations. The students will learn about special staining procedures & handling & testing of various cytological specimens.
    BMLS606-18 Parasitology and virology – Practical CO1-Faecal and blood tests for identification of parasites. Collection and examination of intermediate and definitive hosts for identification of larval and adult stages of parasites. Identification of parasites in H&E tissue sections.
    BMLS607-18 Histotechnology-II & Cytology – Practical CO1-Histology and cytology aims to study the microscopic and ultramicroscopic structure of the structures of the human body, their development and changes in various living conditions, students acquire deep knowledge of histology and use this knowledge in the process of further training and in professional activities to solve clinical problems, create a theoretical basis for students to master clinical disciplines (internal diseases, surgery, clinical pharmacology, pathological anatomy, etc.), integrate teaching with the main clinical disciplines, development of professional abilities for clinical thinking in students.
